The Transition From Academic Exams to Problem Solving
High school ICT touches on basic C syntax, but university Computer Science & Engineering is an entirely different playing field. Here is how to hit the ground running.
1. Master C/C++ Pointers and Memory Model
Don't just memorize `for` loops. Understand stack vs heap memory, pointers, dynamic memory allocation, and references in C++. This will give you an unfair advantage in Data Structures.
2. Get Familiar with Git and Linux
Install Ubuntu via WSL or dual boot. Learn basic bash commands and commit your assignments to GitHub from Day 1. It builds your portfolio and prepares you for real software engineering.
3. Begin Competitive Programming Early
Create an account on Codeforces and solve 2 problems daily. The analytical problem-solving muscles you build in your first 2 semesters will make technical interviews feel effortless by your senior year!
